News from Teachers:

  • Our theme this term is Planets; our children are learning names of the eight planets, the role of an Astronaut, the Importance of the Sun and that Earth is home for many living and non-living things. We have added another sub-topic relating to climate change and how it is affecting our planet Earth. It’s amazing to hear our 4 to 5 year old’s speak about protecting their environment.   As a school we are showing them simple video’s on climate change, talking to them about growing more plants and how climate change is affecting the weather.

  • My year 9 Art class are going to Lady Musgrave Island to partake in ReefBlitz, a citizen science project to collect data on the health of the Reef using colour cards, as part of International Year of the Reef. They are going to research a specific coral and construct a representation of it out of ceramics in order to make a representation of the Reef.

  • Our school have decided to make our Senior Classes final term all about Climate Change due to the inspiring work you are all doing and the Homeward Bound Projects.  This week, their drawings from the contest as well as others they’ve done throughout the semester are being presented to the public via ‘Greyton Artwalk’.  This is an annual event. Artists throughout the village open their doors to the public to view their works. The entire village essentially becomes one big art gallery.

  • Thanks so much for this opportunity – the students have been extremely interested and excited by it. It has led us to researching this topic area in greater detail and the students will be using this research to develop a resource / activity to share with our year 2 students and raise their awareness.

  • Awesome and extremely powerful artwork and imagery coming from I’m wondering what are some read alouds that teachers have been using to frontload this global issue?
